There are certain websites and travel agents that specialise in student travel. You can generally find students deals on airline tickets. However, even if you are not a student, you may still be able to get the deal. You just have to be student-aged.

The Truth about Stand-by
In the past many people would simply arrive at the airport and wait in a stand by line. If the aeroplane wasn’t full, then they would be able to get on it, for an incredibly cheap flight. While this still applies in certain instances, this is not the best way to go.
In most cases, the longer you wait, the more expensive the ticket is going to be. Arriving at the airport ticketless will either see you spending a fortune for a seat, or waiting hours or even days for the next available spot. Flying is stressful enough without adding a long wait to the mixture.
In some cases you will buy your airline ticket and then see a new advertisement the next day for a half-off seat sale for your destination. There is really nothing you can do about this but suck it up. These things happen. No matter how much research you do, you still might find a better deal tomorrow.
